Seminar: Orthodontics and Facial Smile Aesthetics
About the Seminar
As the demand for cosmetic services continues to increase throughout the world the dental professional must address the patient’s concerns for ideal dental aesthetic. While function and stability are still important criteria for orthodontic success it is an improvement in facial smile aesthetics that is often the primary reason many patients seek orthodontic treatment. This one day seminar will focus on many of the aspects that effect dental aesthetics and the relationship between orthodontics and other cosmetic dental procedures.
Topics to be Covered:
- Smile aesthetics (what things contribute to improved aesthetics and which detracts)
- Symmetry and asymmetry; what influences they have on smile aesthetics and what treatment options exist
- Gingival display and what influences orthodontic malocclusions and treatment has on it
- Anterior gingival heights and the role orthodontic treatment has on adjusting them Treatment for gingival embrasures (‘Blackholes’)
- Treatment of congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors
Additional Information:
Multiple cases will be utilised to demonstrate various aspects of these aesthetic concerns and treatment modalities with particular interest paid to available ‘evidenced based information’.
The Presenter
Dr Eric Lowenhaupt, D.D.S. Eric B. Lowenhaupt, D.D.S. attended Florida State University for undergraduate studies and Emory University in Atlanta for his Dental and Orthodontic training. He completed a general practice residency and practiced general dentistry for six years before returning for his graduate orthodontic training at Emory University. Since 1986 he has been in the private practice of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Jupiter, Florida. He cares for a variety of patients including children and adults. Dr. Lowenhaupt lectures both nationally and internationally through his affiliation with (G)nathos and (G)nathos South. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry at the University of Alabama and a consultant for the V.A. Hospital. Dr. Lowenhaupt has been a
