Advanced Orthodontics:“The Most Simplified Mechanics Yet”
Presented by Dr Eric B Lowenhaupt, D.D.S.

This ‘Advanced Seminar’ series will focus on the subject of "The Most Simplified Mechanics Yet”.  Twenty-five years ago Dr. Robert Moyers made the statement "there is little universal agreement among orthodontist regarding treatment methods". Yet, basic requirements for orthodontic tooth movement have not changed over the many years we have been moving teeth (though certainly the marketing of appliances necessary to accomplish this movement has changed). Orthodontic treatment can be provided in a qualitative manner with efficiency without the use of expensive and cumbersome 'gadget' systems.  Our goal is to set-up simplified force systems to address any type of tooth movement necessary using the basic principles of biomechanic tooth movements.  Once mastered, these simplified force systems can be applied any place in the mouth with completely predictable results independent of the appliance system you are currently using. Numerous cases will be used to demonstrate various aspects of these 'simplified mechanics' as well as hands-on exercises for various demonstrations and wire bending techniques.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define and understand principles of basic biomechanics including: forces, moments, couples and moments of forces and couples.
  2. Learn to apply various force system to orthodontic malocclusion in the vertical, horizontal and lateral planes.
  3. Hands-on exercises to demonstrate various biomechanic systems.
  4. Demonstrations and hands-on exercises for intra-oral wire manipulations with predictable treatment results.
  5. Learn how and why these basic principles will work with whatever appliance system you are currently utilizing.
