Basic Orthodontics & Typodont Course
Presented by Dr Eric Lowenhaupt D.D.S.
This three day concentrated course is designed for general dentists who have a sincere interest in orthodontics and would like to clearly understand the basics prior to making the decision to commit to a extended format program. As is true for all dental specialties, including general dentistry, comprehensive training lasts “only as long as the clinician chooses to be involved”.
Topics include
- How to incorporate orthodontics into your practice
- Basic orthodontic arch-wire bending and placement (hands-on experience with typodonts for each participant)
- Basic orthodontic band and bracket placement
- Basic use of orthodontic force systems
- Orthodontic pliers-names and uses
- Identifying “simple” and “complex” orthodontic cases to assist in the decision of cases to treat and cases to refer
- Gathering high quality records
- Basic case diagnosis, prognosis & treatment planning
- Basic orthodontic troubleshooting
- Basic orthodontic fi nishing and detailing
- Basic orthodontic retainer design and placement
About the presenter
Dr Eric B. Lowenhaupt, D.D.S. attended Florida State University for undergraduate studies and Emory University in Atlanta for his Dental and Orthodontic training. He completed a general practice residency and practiced general dentistry for six years before returning for his graduate orthodontic training at Emory University. Since 1986 he has been in the private practice of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Jupiter, Florida. He cares for a variety of patients including children and adults.
Dr Lowenhaupt lectures both nationally and internationally through his affi liation with (G) nathos (The Ricketts School for Bioprogressive Education, Southeast) and VOCA (Vital Orthodontic Considerations Australasia). He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry at the University of Alabama and a consultant for the Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr Lowenhaupt has been a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics since 1993.
